Etsy Fee Calculator · Seller Fees, Profit and Pricing

Selling on Etsy means that part of every sale never reaches you. The marketplace charges a listing fee when you publish an item, a transaction fee on the sale and a payment processing fee on the order total, and sales that come from an Offsite Ads click carry an additional advertising fee. Added up, these fees commonly take a noticeable share of the order, and because several of them apply to the shipping you charge as well as the item price, they are easy to underestimate.
This calculator shows exactly what each fee costs on a sale and what is left after your materials, labor and the postage you pay. It then works backwards: it finds the lowest item price at which you break even and the price that reaches the profit margin you want, so you can price a new product instead of guessing. Enter the shipping you charge the buyer separately from the postage you actually pay, because the difference between the two can turn a good price into a loss.
The fee rates start at the defaults from Etsy's published US schedule (a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% plus $0.25 for payment processing) and every one of them can be edited. Etsy changes its fees from time to time and some rates depend on your shop, so check Etsy's current Fees & Payments Policy and adjust the fields to match your account.

Calculation Formula

Standard Method

Order Total = Item Price + Shipping Charged Transaction Fee = Order Total × Transaction Rate Payment Processing Fee = (Order Total + Sales Tax) × Processing Rate + Fixed Fee Listing Fee = per listing created or renewed by a sale Offsite Ads Fee = Order Total × Offsite Ads Rate (only when the sale came from an Offsite Ads click) Net Profit = Order Total − All Fees − Cost of the Item − Postage You Pay Profit Margin = Net Profit ÷ Order Total The break-even price and the price for your target margin are found by searching for the lowest item price, to the cent, whose profit (and margin) reaches the goal with every fee applied. A price is reported as not reachable when the fees and costs make that margin impossible at any price.

Benchmark Example:
A $30 handmade item with $5 charged for shipping. It costs $8 to make and $6 to ship, and the sale did not come from an Offsite Ads click: • Order total: $30 + $5 = $35.00 • Transaction fee (6.5%): $2.28 • Payment processing (3% + $0.25): $1.30 • Listing fee: $0.20 • Total Etsy fees: $3.78 (10.8% of the order total) • Net profit: $35.00 − $3.78 − $8.00 − $6.00 = $17.23, a 49.2% margin If the same sale came from an Offsite Ads click at a 15% fee, that adds $5.25 of fees and cuts the profit to about $11.98.
